Gaur Valerio, I'puram: The case of the illegal RWA

Residents approached the police about Birendra Singh Chauhan, the president of the illegitimate body who often threatened them with dire consequences if his position was challenged.

Gaur Valerio, I'puram: The case of the illegal RWA

Residents of Gaur Valerio, a residential society in Ahinsa Khand 2, Indirapuram, approached the police to resolve a dispute within the society RWA. A group of about 100 residents approached police sub-inpector Prem Singh, in charge of the Kanawni police outpost on Sunday evening, with the issue.

Rajeev Munshi, a resident of Gaur Valerio, said that a 10-member body, including the president and the general secretary, was informally formed in 2014 to take over the society from Gaurson, the builder. "It was decided that formal elections would be held once the body received the handover," said Munshi. "However, no such thing happened, and the current RWA, its president and secretary are illegitimate."

Residents had called for a general body meeting on Sunday to discuss the issue, but when faced with the question, the president and the general secretary left without reaching a satisfactory conclusion.

Residents alleged that Birendra Singh Chauhan, the president of the body, was holding his post illegally and delaying the election process on purpose. They also said that Chauhan resorted to abusive language on many occasions and often boasted of having authorities in his grasp, not to mention threatening residents with dire consequences if his position was challenged. Speaking to City Spidey, Piyush Jain, a former board member who resigned from his post when he realised formal elections were not forthcoming, said that the formation of a new RWA was the bone of contention between residents and the president.

When City Spidey spoke to Chauhan, he refuted the residents' allegations and said that elections were not conducted because of unresolved issues, one of them being the provision of a generator. He also said some residents were trying to malign his reputation for personal gains.

City Spidey took up the matter with Prem Singh, in-charge of the Kanawni police outpost. He said that he was aware of the issue of the illegal RWA in Gaur Valerio. "Most of the allegations have been levelled against Birendra Singh Chauhan, the president of the body. We have taken note of the problem and will provide a complete report to the sub-divisional magistrate on Monday," he added.
