Kendriya Vihar, Noida: Sanjiv Srivastava voted RWA president for the third time

Residents of Kendriya Vihar, Sector 51, Noida, chose Sanjiv Srivastava as the RWA president for the third consecutive term yesterday. He will lead the RWA management committee for the next two years.

He defeated his rival, LOP Karan, by a huge margin. While Srivastava garnered 267 votes, Karan managed only 156. The community centre was abuzz with electoral activities since 10 in the morning. While the contestants campaigned from the community centre, it also doubled as a polling booth.

AK Nauriyal, the returning officer, had made seating arrangements for the voters right outside the community centre. A tent was set up for voters, where they waited after casting their votes.

To ensure free and fair elections, the returning officer had placed several CCTV cameras well in advance, and the entire polling area was under remote surveillance. Noida Police personnel and private watchmen were deployed as well.

In all, 472 voters of a totall of 1,200 voted in this election. Srivastava told City Spidey that the higher-than-expected turnout was a result of aggressive campaigns carried out in advance by the candidates.

It took more than six hours for the results to be declared. The returning officer came out with a list of winners around 10 pm.

He declared KR Sharma, AK Gupta, BC Upadhayay and GK Nair as vice-president, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer respectively. MK Pandit, former RWA treasurer, lost the battle to GK Nair. Besides them, 10 executive members of the RWA were also elected.
