Sushant Lok residents meet over power cuts

Gurgaon: RWA meets residents to discuss restoration of power supply to streetlights and water pumps.

Sushant Lok residents meet over power cuts Picture used for representative purpose only.

After power supply was disconnected to streetlights and water pumping stations several times, the Sushant Lok Residents Welfare Association (SLRWA) held a meeting recently with residents to discuss the restoration of the power supply.

Electricity supply was disconnected by the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) after the RWA and the maintenance company failed to pay dues to the discom.

Residents have been demanding either the handing over of the society to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon or a proper monitoring system to solve such problems.

“No concrete decisions were taken at the meeting. Such meetings will not help unless there is a proper monitoring system in place or the maintenance agency is accountable to a senior authority,” said Maharaj Gupta, a resident of Sushant Lok I.

“All stakeholders have been assured of improved ground conditions and upgraded working and monitoring procedures to be adopted by the elected ward representatives in the area," said an RWA member.

According to residents, there are issues with both the power and water supply, and maintenance. They said they have been suffering from long power outages in the past few months. And when they approached the authorities concerned, they passed the buck to each other. They said there was a blame game going on between the DHBVN, the RWA and the developer over the maintenance of power infrastructure in Sushant Lok.

Residents said that there have been long power cuts in the past four days. Shalabh Shukla, a resident of A Block in Sushant Lok 1, said, “We are facing a tough time, as the entire day is wasted. The authorities have been announcing for many days now that things are going to improve. But the situation is still the same. This is the second time this week that we have faced such a long power cut. These cuts have become routine now."

"The condition of roads, power supply and water supply have all steadily deteriorated in Sushant Lok I. We are wondering what exactly they are doing with the maintenance fees they collect from us," added Mohan Sarna, another resident.
