Sector 62: Rusty pipeline, Noida Authority rustier still

While the Authority twiddles its thumbs over e-tendering, precious gallons of pure Ganga water are wasted due to a badly corroded underground reservoir pipeline.

Sector 62: Rusty pipeline, Noida Authority rustier still

Noida Authority, almost a year back, noticed a shocking waste of pure Ganga jal from a damaged underground reservoir pipeline in Sector 62. However, it is yet to come up with a solution.

The water flows at the rate of 2.5 m per second through the reservoir pipeline. But all that water has been going to waste, since the old, underground reservoir pipeline joint got damaged about a year ago.

Top officials of Noida Authority, including the chief engineer, are aware of the problem, and have visited the site as well. But the problem remains unattended.

Nitesh Kumar, a resident of Sector 62, told City Spidey that it is sheer negligence on the part of Noida Authority that it is yet to come up with an answer. He further added that the Authority often supplied salty water to residents, but here it is, just twiddling its thumbs over this criminal waste of pure water every day.

Chet Ram, junior engineer of Noida Authority, told City Spidey that he was aware of the issue. He added that the problem was difficult to solve, as the entire reservoir pipeline below the overhead water tank was corroded, and 22 m of it needed to be replaced.

According to Noida Authority officials, the estimated cost of the replacement is Rs 6 lakh. The figures have been forwarded to the relevant department, which, on its part, will take care of e-tendering.

AK Saxena, project engineer of Noida Authority, admitted that the work had been delayed for over a year now. "But I can't do anything, as an e-tender needs to be floated first, and I don't know when that will happen," he added. "If that is done, I will need just two days to replace the 2-m-long underground pipeline.”
