Bouncers hired by Gaursons beat up protesting contractor

Bouncers employed by Gaursons allegedly beat up a contractor, Rakesh Kumar, and his family for protesting against the non-payment of dues to the tune of Rs 4.5 crore. The family said they were peacefully protesting in front of Gaur Biz Park, the builder’s corporate office, in Abhay Khand 2, Indirapuram.

Speaking to City Spidey, Bharat Bhushan, the contractor’s son, said Jay Aar Constructions — their company — had completed construction work for three towers in Gaur City 2, a residential township that is being developed by Gaursons in Noida Extension. The work, which was started in 2011, was completed by 2015 but payments are still due.

Bhushan said suppliers and investors had started to pressurise them for funds, and his father had been ill-treated. Hence, they had been sitting in peaceful protest in front of the builder's office since yesterday morning.

Around 8.30 am, the guards and the bouncers took away all the banners that the protesters had put up in the area. They then seized Bhushan's mobile and deleted pictures and videos of whatever had been happening. They returned in the afternoon and beat up the contractor and his family members. Many of them were even injured.

When City Spidey contacted Gaursons, the builder flatly denied its involvement and said that all payments had been cleared on time. “This incident has nothing to do with us. It is between one contractor and his sub-contractors and labourers. We have always been prompt with our payments,” said Vipin Modi, president, sales and marketing, Gaursons India Limited.

However, Bhushan said that after the incident, he has been receiving calls from other contractors complaining of non-payment of dues from Gaursons.

Speaking to City Spidey, another contractor, on condition of anonymity, said that the realtor had not yet returned the security money, even after a year of the project’s completion. He added that the builder had also not provided him sufficient valuation for reusable construction materials, such as metal shutters. This led to losses to the tune of Rs 18-20 lakh.

Gorakh Nath Yadav, SO, Indirapuram police station, said an FIR has been lodged against the bouncers for beating up the protesters, and six persons have already been arrested.
