East End, MV I extn: Residents want a solution for water seepage

Continuous water dripping along the external walls of several blocks in East End Apartments has become a cause of worry for residents. Residents of the cooperative group housing society in Mayur Vihar Phase1 extension fear that the water accumulated on the basement roof will seep in and weaken the already dilapidated pillars.

Water can be seen dripping from airconditioners, sanitary fitments and drainage pipes across the society, especially blocks 10 and 23.

The water collects on top of the basement area and seeps into the basement. Residents believe that the water has been corroding the structure's reinforcement steel, thereby weakening columns and beams.

"Despite the evident threat that the water poses for the age-old structure, the society's managing committee has not taken any step to counter seepage" said Manoj Verma, a resident of block 23. "We might have to re-strengthen the structure if we do not address the issue rightaway.”

When City Spidey spoke to vice-president of the society, SB Saraswat, he said, “The issue of water seepage was discussed in a meeting last Sunday. It is quite a serious problem. We have started identifying the problem areas and will solve the problem at the earliest."
