The 16th annual general meeting of Shaheed Samarak Sanstha was held on Saturday at Arun Vihar Community Centre in Sector 37, Noida. About 50 members attended the meeting. The Chairman, Lt Gen GL Bakshi, Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), addressed the gathering, and the house paid homage to four members who had left for their heavenly abode.

The idea of setting up a war memorial to honour martyrs was conceived in 1999. Shaheed Samarak, the first tri-services memorial in the country, was dedicated to the nation on April 13, 2002, by the then three services chiefs. The names of 38 martyrs from Gautam Budh Nagar are engraved on the memorial.

Here are the highlights of the annual general meeting: 

New names in list of martyrs: In his annual report, the executive director, Lt Gen Gorakh Nath, (PVSM) and (AVSM), said that two martyr’s names had been added to the list; so now the total number of sanstha martyrs stood at 38. He also apprised the house of various functions held in 2015-16 and congratulated members for their contribution to these.

Budget proposal for 2016-17: Maj Gen DK Sen presented the balance sheet for 2015-16, and the budget proposal for 2016-17, which was approved by the house.

Election results: The following were elected unopposed for two years: Lt Gen GL Bakshi, PVSM, as chairman; Lt Gen Gorakh Nath, PVSM, AVSM, as executive director; and Maj Gen DK Sen, Cdr N Mahajan, Col JC Kohli, Sohan Singh, R Vasudev, JJ Singh, V Rai and Lt Col M Kumar as directors.
