Theft of vehicles in Noida has not just raised the question of security but the issue of differing opinions from the city and district magistrates also seems to be gathering steam.

Earlier, a circular was sent to all RWAs in Noida by Bacchu Singh, city magistrate, ordering them to improve security measures to stop the theft of bikes and cars. The circular conveyed that security of vehicles is the responsibility of the RWA.

However on Sunday, NP Singh, district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar, said, “It is the responsibility of the police to stop theft of cars and bikes.”

FONRWA (Federation of Noida Residential Welfare Association), meanwhile, called a press conference on Sunday in Sector 52 and cited the lack of funds to beef up security in societies. AN Dhawan, general secretary of FONRWA, said at the meeting that they would have a meeting with the RWA members and would meet the city magistrate on the issue on Monday. The press conference was attended by NP Singh, president of FONRWA, and other members of the body.

The circular stated that the security in sectors 14, 14A, 15A and Kendriya Vihar, Sector 82, is good and other RWAs should follow suit. Bacchu Singh had said that if the RWAs do not obey the circular then he would conduct a meeting with all RWAs and take further action on the issue.

Most RWAs had raised objection to the circular. Members of FONRWA had said that most RWAs do not have enough funds to emulate the security of aforementioned societies. The maintenance charge of many RWAs is also low compared to that of high-rated societies. They added that it would be difficult to afford patrolling of security guards on bikes and CCTV cameras. Rajeev Garg, secreatary of Sector 27 RWA, said, “I also want maximum security in the sector. But lack of funds is why we have fewer guards and CCTV cameras.”
