Sadbhavana Apts, Dwarka, to soon have a rainwater harvesting system

Sadbhavana Apartments, Sector 22, Dwarka, will soon have a rainwater harvesting system (RHS) of its own. The entire system cost Rs 4 lakh to instal.

"The rainwater harvesting system will be ready by the end of this month," said Jyoti Prasad, president of the society's RWA. "We are concerned about the drop in water-table levels in the city and want to contribute to charging it. The authorities should sensitise residents to the depleting water table and encourage them to conserve water using the rainwater harvesting system."

SS Mann, an environmental activist and a member of the managing committee, said that although the system was put in place by residents, they would seek assistance from Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for their scheme that allows a subsidy for the installation of a rainwater harvesting system. "Although our system is almost ready, we will try and receive the subsidy. The government agencies should encourage eco-friendly initiatives. We have also been planting saplings in and around our society. We just need to do our bit for a greener future."
