Vasundhara Bhawan to get its long-awaited makeover

Residents of Vasundhara Enclave have wanted the community centre to be a four-storey facility for almost a decade now.

Vasundhara Bhawan to get its long-awaited makeover

The single-storey Vasundhara Bhawan, a community centre in Vasundhara Enclave, is finally being converted to a four-storey facility after necessary approval from Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Fire Department.  The facility will also house rainwater harvesting system, firefighting system and potable water tanks.

The plan to expand the facility had been on the agenda of the Joint Forum of Vasundhara Enclave Group Housing Societies & Institutions for almost a decade.

JP Sharma, a resident of Overseas Apartments and secretary of the joint forum, told City Spidey that they had been fighting for the expansion of the community centre with DDA for years.

"DDA had allotted a land for developing the community centre in 1994 but they reverted their decision in 2004," said Sharma. "We went to Delhi High Court and won the case in 2007, after which the single-storey community centre was constructed. We had plans of expanding the community centre for the past a couple of years but had to wait due to lack of funds. We approached former chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who granted Rs 25 lakh under Delhi Kalyan Samiti for the four-storey project. About 35 group housing societies, social groups operating within these societies and residents chipped in to make this dream a reality.”
