More than 100 homebuyers of Panchsheel Green, a residential society in Sector 16B, Noida, protested outside the builder’s office in Sector 63 on Saturday and demanded that the the rate of power connection be reduced by half.

Panchsheel Green apartments was under construction and a few homebuyers got possession a couple of months ago. After some homebuyers began moving in, the developer sent a letter to all homebuyers last week stating that they would have to pay a sum of Rs 20,000 per KV as installation charge.

Homebuyers claim that the rate is almost four times higher than the rate levied by the power discom. They say that the government charges Rs 5,000 per KV for one connection and that the inflated rate has forced them to protest against the builder.

Praksh Chandra, a homebuyer, said that he was shocked to see the letter. He said, “The letter reads that each homebuyer of 2 BHK flat will have to pay Rs 80,000 for installing a 4KV power connection in his house. Moreover, homebuyers have to pay Rs 12,000 as service charge.”

About 10 persons who represented homebuyers met the builder and sought clarification. The meeting went on for over an hour after which the developer agreed to contact the in charge of electricity connection.

S Singh, a homebuyer who was present in the meeting, told City Spidey that the builder has accepted their demand of reducing the rate of installation. “The negotiation is in progress and we expect the builder will agree to charge each homebuyer Rs 10,000 per KV,” he added.
