Has our favourite coin been discontinued?

While shopkeepers, rickshaw pullers and auto drivers have been refusing to accept the 10-rupee coin, public sector banks say it is merely a rumour.

Has our favourite coin been discontinued?

Word on the streets is that Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has discontinued the ten-rupee coin. Noida residents are finding it tough to use the coin, as shopkeepers, rickshaw pullers and auto drivers have been refusing to accept it.

City Spidey got in touch with the managers of a few public-sector banks to discuss the issue. All of them were of the opinion that it was just a rumour. "We have not received any such directive from RBI and are readily accepting the ten-rupee coin as usual," said Arun Kumar Singh, the district lead bank manager, the RBI nominee for Noida. "There is no reason for not accepting the coin. If there are any such incidents occuring in Noida, residents should report them to the district administration and the RBI.

When contacted, the District Magistrate of Noida, NP Singh, said he was unaware of the problem. "I am yet to receive any such complaint. If I receive such a complaint, I will take it to RBI as the matter does not fall under the district administration's jurisdiction."
