Ridgewood Estate, Gurgaon: Free, open-air gym by October

If you are a fitness freak and a resident of Ridgewood Estate, DLF City Phase 4, you have ample reasons to rejoice. The Ridgewood Estate Condominium Association (RECA) is starting a free, open-air gymnasium for its residents next month.

The15-year-old condominium, spread across 11 acres, has around 4,000 residents. So long, residents have had to go to various city gyms to work out -- but no longer so. The equipment is being bought from a leading manufacturer and the machines are expected to be fitted before the third week of this month. A trainer will also be hired.

According to the RECA members, the gym will, in all probability, become operational by the 1st of next month. “In the first phase, we are starting the gym in just one park, but eventually we are planning to extend the facilities to all the seven parks of the society,” said RWA president Sanjay Batra.

The inspiration came from the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, which has set up an open-air gym this year along the road dividing Sectors 44 and 45. The residents living in nearby localities have been using the facilities without paying any charges.

The gym will have 10 kinds of fitness machines, suitable for workouts in the open, such as air walkers, sit-up benches, air swings, pull-up chairs, cross walkers and rowing machines.

The machines will be weather-proof and placed on concrete slabs, so removing them will be impossible. The agency that will install the machines will also maintain them for three years.
