The mayor bypoll in Ghaziabad witnessed an abysmal voter turnout of 18.54% on February 14. Voters started coming in by 7 am but the numbers became a trickle by noon.
The election was peaceful, with no inappropriate incident reported. Polling was conducted in more than 1,100 booths set up by the district administration.
Counting of votes is scheduled for February 16.
According to the district administration, only 2.18 lakh of the 11.77 lakh voters cast their votes in the bypoll.
Several residents said that their names were missing from the voter list.
SSP Dharmendra Singh and DM Vimal Kumar Sharma inspected a number of voting booths to keep a check on the proceedings.
