Residents of Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension are in for a treat this Navratri. Milani Cultural and Welfare Association, a cultural organisation, is set to spend Rs 70 lakh on celebrations for the festival.

Durga Puja will be organised at the DDA park between Fine Home Apartments and Supreme Enclave.

Milani Cultural and Welfare Association (MCWA) has decided to set up pandals (tents) with a playing-cards theme, taking inspiration from Rabindranath Tagore’s play Tasher Desh. The entry gate will depict Kuthibari, the ancestral home of Tagore.

To draw in the crowd, organisers have invited several Bollywood and Kolkata-based singers. From October 5 to October 10, residents will enjoy live performances by singers such as Bappi Lahiri, Ankit Tiwari, and popular Bengali playback singers Raghav Chatterjee and Soumya Basu. Actor Rituparna Sengupta will also grace celebrations.

Mrinal K Biswas, general secretary of MCWA, said, “This is the 25th year we are celebrating Navratri here, so we decided to make it special. As we are believers of Rabindranath Tagore’s teachings, we decided that the structure of the pandal, stage, entry gate and galleries would be dedicated to him. The cultural programmes will also be based on Tagore’s life.”

The extravaganza will include plays, solo and group dances, and singing competitions, in which children, too, will be able to participate.

Speaking about the security arrangements, Biswas told City Spidey that there will be 22 private security guards and 15 bouncers inside the premises. Apart from these, 15 to 20 Delhi Police personnel will be deployed outside the park. “There will be 20 CCTV cameras covering the premises. Fire safety systems will also be set up. We have allocated a budget of Rs 70 lakh for the celebrations.”

In the past 24 years, MCWA has set the aesthetics standard high. In those 10 days, it turns the park into a hotspot of entertainment activities.
