In a shocking incident, a former director-general with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs allegedly committed suicide along with his son at their flat in Neelkanth Apartments in IP Extension, East Delhi. He was facing a CBI probe in a corruption case.
The CBI had arrested BK Bansal on July 16, 2016, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 9 lakh from executives of a pharmaceutical company. Two days later, his wife Satyabala, 57, and daughter Neha, 26, committed suicide in the same flat.
The incident came to light on the morning of September 27, when Rachna, the domestic help, found Bansal and his son, Yogesh, 26, hanging from ceiling fans in the flat. She immediately informed the security guards at the society gate.
Ram Bhaskar Mishra, a security guard, told City Spidey, “When Rachna came to me, she was crying and saying, ‘Bansal ji ne fansi lagaa li’ [Bansal ji has hanged himself]. I ran to the flat and found their bodies hanging from ceiling fans in their respective rooms. Around 9.15 am, the police reached the spot and the bodies were sent for post mortem.”
The police claims to have recovered separate suicide notes from the flat. Rishi Pal, DCP, East Delhi, said that a five-page suicide note was found in Bansal’s room and a two-page suicide note was recovered from Yogesh’s. “In their suicide notes, they have said that the CBI raid had caused them and their family great humiliation and that they did not wish to live any more,” Pal added.
Raghuveer Singh, an employee of the society’s managing committee, said that on September 26, Bansal had been called for questioning by the CBI. “Father and son were living with relatives in their native city Hisar, in Haryana, after getting bail on August 26. They had returned to their flat about 15 days ago,” Singh added.
Devshree, a neighbour of the Bansals, told City Spidey that Bansal and his son were returning late at night for the past two–three days. “We exchanged a few words when we met earlier. But we didn’t talk as much after the death of his wife and daughter as we all knew that he was still coping with the tragedy.”
