Residents of DLF Gardencity, Gurgaon, participated in a voluntary cleanliness drive on October 2 to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti.

People trooped in from DLF New Town Heights I, II and III from sectors 90, 86 and 91 to participate and stress the idea of Swachh Bharat.

A theme-based painting competition was also organised for children to help them inculcate the concepts of hygiene and sanitation. The response was overwhelming.

Balesh Agarwal, a resident of DLF Gardencity, said, “The importance of cleanliness can never be overstated. Bapuji was the biggest champion of cleanliness. For me, participating in this drive is a tribute to him and a pledge to continue working towards the cause."

Speaking on the occasion, Colonel Tejbir Singh, AVP (Township), DLF, said, "Gandhiji epitomised the individual's contribution to society in terms of hygiene and sanitation. Thus, we decided to organise a cleanliness drive as our tribute to him. It was heartening to see residents of all age groups participate with such great enthusiasm. In fact, the painting competition, too, received an overwhelming response."

He further added, "We shall always remain committed to keeping our surroundings clean and hygienic. We have also launched a campaign to keep our township polythene-free, and I am optimistic that residents will wholeheartedly support the cause."
