Irked buyers and residents go on a hungerstrike to demonstrate against the builder’s failure to deliver the flats by 2014-end and a host of other problems such as erratic power supply and faulty lifts.

RG Residency, Noida: Hungerstrike by residents and owners against builder

Residents and flat buyers of RG Residency, a residential project in Sector 120, Noida, went on a hungerstrike on October 8 outside the society premises to protest against the builder’s failure to deliver the flats by 2014-end. About 150 people participated in the strike.

The buyers, who had booked their flats in 2010, claimed that the builder had promised to hand over all the 2,200 flats by 2014-end, but so far only 400 residents have been given possession. Most of the buyers had made 90 to100 per cent of the payment.

The buyers alleged that whenever they met the builder's representative body over the issue, they were told that possession would be given in a month's time -- but it never happened. Those who have already started living in the society are still waiting to get their registry done. Since the builder has not made the payments due to the Noida Authority, it has not been given a No Objection Certificate  or NOC. Thus, registrations have been kept on hold.

There are other problems as well. Residents complain of lifts not working properly, of not having been allotted parking spots, of not having access to the clubhouse or the swimming pool. And, of course, there is erratic power supply as well. Even a fire-fighting system is yet to be installed.

Manish Aggarwal, a buyer, complained to City Spidey, "The builder is yet to pay Rs 68 crore due to the Noida Authority. We even wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, and he forwarded the letter to the Noida Authority, but nothing came of it. We are still paying rents!"

Residents, too, are not a happy lot. Speaking to City Spidey, Sankalp Srivastava, a resident, said, “The lifts installed in the society half the time don't function. There are just a handful of guards in the name of security; there are no CCTV cameras and no intercom facilities. When we confronted the builder’s representatives with the problems, they had no answers.”

When City Spidey tried to contact Aman Gupta, the director of RG Group, he did not take the calls and the group representatives refused to talk as well.
