Looking for directions? Make do with posters on Gurgaon’s signage

As Gurgaon residents get busy with Durga puja and gear up for Diwali, political parties and commercial advertisers have taken the opportunity to put their posters on signboards and milestones.

Wishing residents through posters during festivities is a way to increase popularity in the area. Understandably, political parties do not miss the chance to display their posters on such occasions.

However, the inconvenience to commuters is an issue often overlooked. Some of the posters being put up on signboards are the case in point. Posters on signboards can be seen on Sohna road, MG Road, Rajiv Chowk, old railway station road, bus stand and in Sector 5.

“I have to go to my friend’s house in Sector 56 and there is hardly any signage displayed in the city. If we find some signboard, there is a poster on it. Local residents may not be affected with this practice, but someone who comes from another city is definitely affected,” said Kamlesh Kumar, a resident of Uniworld Gardens II, Sohna Road.

Rama Rathee, RWA president of DLF Phase I, said, “It is uncivil to put up a poster on a milestone or a signage. People coming from other cities are the worst affected. The city is a hub of multi-national companies (MNCs) and many people, both from India and abroad, visit the city daily. We need to think about their convenience too. The civic body should take appropriate action against violators.”

Meenu Singh, RWA president of Sector 5, told City Spidey that owing to the inconvenience due to the posters on sign boards, they have decided to take up the issue with HUDA.
