Dance, music, games and food. That's how Defence Officers Apartments in Dwarka Sector 4 will set the stage for Diwali (October 30). The society's women and children will organise a Diwali mela on the evening of October 15.

The mela is the brainchild of Secret Cave, a group of residents from both within the society and other parts of the city that works for the cultural development of children.

You can imagine how excited residents are. "This is the first time such an event is being organised in the society," said Leena Dabiru, a member of SecretS Cave and a resident of the society. "The mela will feature various stalls by both society residents and social organisations from across the city."

But the fun doesn't just end with stalls. There will also be a pottery workshop lined up for children, where they will be taught to make diyas, and a diya-decoration competition.

When City Spidey met a couple of residents busy preparing for the fair, the enthusiasm was palpable.

Bandita Bose, an art and craft expert, said she has a home decor stall planned for tomorrow. "All the items I'll put up will be handmade," she said.

Jaya Singh, on the other hand, was busy tinkering around in the kitchen, putting together a lip-smacking menu for her food stall at the mela.

City Spidey also spotted a group of children sitting around in a circle, some painting small rings in bright colours and others wrapping up little boxes in glossy gift paper. "We are organising a games stall. We are planning to have hoopla and darts tomorrow. It's going to be so much fun," said one of them, visibly excited, as he wiped his face with a paint-stained hand.

Aditya Vikram Singh, who is involved in setting up the games stall, said, "I will be managing the stall along with Manoli Arora, Ayush Mehdiratta and a couple other kids. Please do visit tomorrow. It'll mean a lot for the kids."

President of the society's managing committee, Debasis Bagchi, said, "This is a great intiative by the residents. The management is happy that an event to promote art and culture is being hosted in the society. Here's wishing the organisers and the kids the very best."
