Homebuyers hope gods work their magic on Dwarka Expressway

Disappointed with the government’s inefficiency in completing Dwarka Expressway, homebuyers and investors from projects proposed on the expressway organised a havan and a puja seeking divine intervention for the project's completion. They also took out a rally on the expressway over the delay.

More than 300 families from 20 projects got together for the cause. Dwarka Expressway, also known as the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR), will connect Dwarka with NH 8 at Kherki Daula. Several residential and commercial projects have come up along the expressway but connectivity remains a problem.

The project has already missed several deadlines. The protest was organised by the DXP Welfare Association, a group of flat owners who have invested in properties along the expressway.

“The fully operational Dwarka Expressway is going to provide alternative connectivity between Delhi and Gurgaon," said Gaurav Prakash, an executive member of the DXP Welfare Association. "It will help decongest NH 8 and reduce traffic by almost 40 per cent. Moreover, a decongested NH 8 will mean lower levels of air and noise pollution. More than 1,000 families have got possession of their flats in the past few months but have been unable to move into their dream homes because the expressway lies incomplete.”

Yashesh Rao, president of the DXP Welfare Association, said, “The project has been in limbo even after intervention from top ministers. Several meetings have been held but nothing has helped. The endless delay and lax attitude of the government has been troubling us. This silent protest was to wake the officials up.”
