Cash crunch as banks closed and ATMs out of cash

It was a mad rush for cash withdrawals in Noida, with banks closed for Gurpurab and most ATMs either not functioning or out of cash.

Cash crunch as banks closed and ATMs out of cash

All banks across the NCR were closed due to Gurpurab on November 14. A lot of ATMs, too, ran out of cash, leaving residents in a fix.

Vishnu Sharma, a resident of Sector 20, Noida, said that after searching for a working ATM, he finally found one at Atta market, but after standing in queue for a long time, even that ran out of cash.

Rajneesh Shukla, a resident of Sector 35, told City Spidey that he had a train to catch but all he had was old currency. “I have only Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, but that won’t help me. I have only three 100-rupee notes. How is that supposed to last the whole tour?” he said.

Sumit Kumar, security guard at the SBI ATM in Atta market, said it was chaos for the most part of the day, with people queuing up outside and waiting for a long time.

Most people felt the government should have planned the day better, as it is the common man who suffers the most in such situations.
