Mother Dairy and Safal emerge as favourites after demonetisation

Residents, especially senior citizens, are now preferring to do their grocery and vegetable shopping from here, given they are accepting the void notes till November 24.

Mother Dairy and Safal emerge as favourites after demonetisation

Ever since demonetisation, Mayur Vihar residents have been turning to Mother Dairy and Safal outlets for their grocery and vegetable shopping. This is because they are still accepting Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, albeit till November 24.

The outlets, however, are only accepting the notes if customers shop for a full Rs 500 or Rs 1,000.

"Although we are not returning change," said Manoj Kumar, a Mother Dairy employee, "we are giving them chits that mention their balance amount. These can be used to purchase something later."

However, Neeta Melag, a senior citizen living in Kala Vihar in Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension, said she was worried about what would happen after Mother Dairy stopped accepting old notes. "There is some relief now that we have Mother Dairy and Safal to use our old notes. Once that is discontinued, we'll have no option but to get the notes exchanged or deposited. It's a nightmare that none of us senior citizens want to go through. The other day, my husband and I stood in a queue for five hours to withdraw cash. We will have to go through that again."
