Gaur Green City residents bring in water tankers to douse garbage fire

After GDA kept passing the buck on the issue of putting out the flames, the residents took matters into their own hands.

Gaur Green City residents bring in water tankers to douse garbage fire Water tankers put out the fire in the garbage dump near Gaur Green City

Residents and RWA members of Indirapuram's Gaur Green City brought in water tankers to douse the fire burning in an illegal garbage dump near the society on November 27.

The open area next to the upcoming 400 kVA power substation on Kala Patthar Road had been turned into a dumping site in the past few months. Residents complained that the fire had been burning for the past few weeks, adding to the pollution in the area.

Residents said despite informing GDA about the matter, the civic authority kept passing the buck, saying the area was the responsibility of the National Highways Authority of India, and lay outside its jurisdiction.

Jigyasu Pant, AOA general secretary of Gaur Green City, said, “Residents of the society had to suffer every day, owing to this illegal dumping of garbage. Additionally, the smoke from the burning garbage made matters worse. We had to take things into our hands.” There are 765 flats in the society.

When City Spidey spoke to Chakresh Jain, superintendent engineer of GDA, he said, "GDA could not get involved in the matter, as the area did not come under the Authority’s jurisdiction. The district administration must take a call on the necessary action."

City Spidey got in touch with Nidhi Kesarwani, district magistrate of Ghaziabad. She said she wasn't aware of the situation, and added, “I will get the problem sorted as soon as possible.”

This incident also led the residents to uncover a sex racket in the area.
