Ghaziabad residents unite to support Dorris Francis

Ghaziabad residents, AOAs and other resident bodies have been collecting funds ever since Dorris Francis, the resident traffic controller from Khoda, was diagnosed with cancer. Currently undergoing treatment at Max hospital in Vaishali, Francis used to manage traffic on NH 24, near the Aitbaar Bazaar and Pushta intersection, just a few hundred metres from the Delhi-Ghaziabad border. She could be seen managing traffic in the morning peak hours — 7 am to 10 am.

Consortium of Societies Ghaziabad (COG), an association of residents and residential societies from Ghaziabad, has been encouraging people to come forward and donate funds for Francis. Speaking to City Spidey, Arif Khan, general secretary of COG, said, "We aim to collect a minimum of Rs 1 lakh for her."

Some societies, such as Jaipuria Sunrise Greens, have organised camps to collect donations. "We have organised our camp on December 4," said Shripal Singh, general secretary of the society's AOA. "It will make more residents aware of the cause, and it will be easy for us to collect funds."

Deepak Sethi, general secretary of the Shipra Krishna Vista AOA, said, "It is encouraging to see the number of residents willing to contribute to the cause."

Francis was shifted to Max hospital from AIIMS on November 30, where she was earlier admitted. Speaking to City Spidey, Victor Francis, Dorris's husband, expressed his gratitude to the people who had come forward to help. "We are truly blessed to have so many people help us," he said. "Even the hospital has assured us free treatment, and my wife is getting better. She is now able to eat and speak a little."
