Miracles do happen — and it did for Dorris Francis. After residents of Ghaziabad, who pooled in resources for the treatment of this resident traffic controller from Khoda who was diagnosed with cancer, it's now the PMO's turn to step in.

In a letter addressed to her, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged Rs 3,00,000 to the family for treatment. The sum has been promised from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. The letter states: "A sum of Rs 3,00,000 is approved from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for the fulfilment of expenditure of the treatment."

The prime minister also wished her a speedy recovery.

Francis used to manage traffic on NH 24, near the Aitbaar Bazaar and Pushta intersection, just a few hundred metres from the Delhi-Ghaziabad border. She could be seen every morning  from 7 am to 10 am at the spot.

Currently, she is undergoing treatment at Max Hospital in Vaishali. She was shifted there on November 30 from AIIMS, where she underwent a surgery.

Alok Kumar, patron of FedAOA, told City Spidey that the PMO's message was intimated to him by PK Bali, the PMO under-secretary.

Kumar added, "Residents from in and around Ghaziabad have also donated for her treatment. We are still campaigning, and wish her a speedy recovery."

Speaking to City Spidey, Dorris's husband, Victor Francis, expressed his gratitude to all who had come forward to help. He said, "My wife is unwell — the stitches are bleeding because of intense coughing — but doctors have assured complete recovery within three months."
