Hard Cash Day 29: Private firm pays partly in grocery coupons

At a time when people are struggling with the scarcity of cash since demonetisation, a private company in Noida has come up with a unique way to help its employees purchase groceries.

The firm, J & S Wirelinks Pvt Ltd, located in Sector 59, Noida, has tied up with a big grocery store located in the nearby Sector 55. The company has been paying a small part of employees' salaries in coupons that can be used to buy groceries. The step has been lauded by the employees as they don't have to queue up to withdraw cash for basic necessities such as groceries.

The 500-rupee coupons can be used to procure groceries from RK Stores in Sector 55. Initially 75 employees had opted for the coupons but this month, another 100 have joined them.

Sudhir Srivastav, managing director of J & S Wirelinks Pvt Ltd, told City Spidey that the idea came from NP Singh, District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar, who in a meeting had suggested handing out the coupons for the convenience of employees.

"Our employees are like our family members," said Srivastav. "We will continue handing out these coupons till the cash crunch is not over."

Ram Kumar, a employee of the firm, said the company's move had been a big help to all employees. "It is such a relief to not stand in queues for hours on end to withdraw cash," said Kumar. "All of us are pleased with the management's move to introduce the coupons."
