Why residents of Dwarka will be fitter this year

What’s better than a regular workout routine? The answer: A regular workout routine under the open skies. And this lifestyle offer comes from none other than the DDA. It has recently started open-air gyms in a number of neighbourhood parks in Dwarka and plans to open 50 more across Delhi.

The RWAs are overjoyed. Recently, residents of Metro View Apartments in Sector 13 poured into the neighbourhood park to check out the cutting-edge equipment recently installed in it.

Vinod Rawat, general-secretary of the RWA, says, “This is a welcome initiative by the DDA. Many of us have started using the park gym in the morning. Women and senior citizens are especially enthusiastic. More such gyms should be opened across the sub-city.”

Cicily Kudian, President, Association of Neighbourhood Ladies Get-Together (ANHLGT), says, “This is a great step to encourage residents to keep fit and spread awareness about how important this is.”

DDA has also opened similar gyms in the Sector 23, Sector 10 and Sector 6 parks. Ten more in Dwarka are being planned, including in Sector 4, Sector 22, behind Jagran Apartments, the district park in Sector 19 and the green area in Sector 5.

Laxmi Narayan, Executive Engineer, DDA, who is taking care of the open-gym project, says, “We are planning an open-air gym covering an area of 220 sqm with 14 state-of-the-art workout equipment. Another is being set up at an estimated cost of Rs 12 lakh. Our target is to have 50 such gyms up and running across Delhi by the end of the year.”
