Sec 93A, Noida: Mobile ATM at Prasavnath Prestige's doorstep

At a time when the public is grappling with cash crunch and banks remained closed for the third consecutive day on December 12, a mobile ATM has come as major relief for residents of Sector 93A.

Punjab National Bank's mobile ATM on December 12 was stationed at Parsvnath Prestige Apartments in Sector-93A, Noida, for whole day. Residents, maids, security guards and housekeeping staff from Parsvnath Prestige and its neighbouring societies were seen queueing up for withdrawing cash from the kiosk.

Rajnish Nandan, president of the Parsvnath Prestige RWA, was the one who persuaded the bank manager to send the mobile ATM. "Although most people are getting by just fine with the help of debit/credit cards, mobile wallets and online payments, there are senior citizens and women who have not been able to adapt as quickly as others," said Nandan. "Some have tried queuing up at banks to withdraw cash but it hasn't worked out for some reason or the other. I requested the bank to send a mobile ATM to cater to those in dire need of some cash."

Nandan said they had started cashless transactions way before the central government demonetised the Rs 500 and the Rs 1,000 notes. "We even pay the security and housing keeping staff salaries through cheques," added Nandan. "We even organised a camp to enable maids and housekeeping staff working in the society to open bank accounts. The bank has received around 300 applications for new bank accounts from our society alone."

Atam Prakash, a senior citizen who withdrew cash from the mobile ATM today, said it was quite convenient for him as there was no crowd and the ATM was placed right at the society.

Virendra Jitanee, another senior citizen who withdrew cash, said although the solution was a temporary one, he was glad he could withdraw Rs 2,500 so easily.
