Residents of various residential societies in Delhi would soon be able to apply for the installation of a rooftop solar power system. Delhi government’s power department has completed the planning phase of its rooftop solar power project and has begun floating tenders.
RK Shrivastava, executive officer of the power department, said, “The department will start receiving applications from RWAs and co-operative group housing societies (CGHS) by the first week of January, 2017. The installation of solar panels would begin by March.”
Delhi government had approved the project in June, 2016. It made rooftop solar power systems mandatory for government buildings. To encourage residential societies and citizens, the government offered a subsidy of up to 30 per cent of the installation cost.
Shrivastava said that approval from municipal corporations or other urban development bodies, such as DDA, would not be required for installing the system.
Some co-operative group housing societies are already looking forward to the project. “There are 75 group housing societies in IP Extension, residents of most of which are interested in the system,” said AM Singhal, president of federation of IP Extension CGHS.
A few months ago, City Spidey had reported that OCS Apartments, a residential society in MV I Extension, was planning to install solar power system.
