A group of well-to-do residents of Mahagun Moderne, a residential society in Sector 78, Noida, donated old woollen clothes to the underprivileged recently to help them cope with the winter season.

Moderne United Society (MoDUS), the group, conducted a month-long donation drive in the society for collecting old woollen clothes. The drive began earlier in December. They encouraged residents by passing on the message — ‘spread the warmth’ — among residents via social media. Residents also contributed generously for the noble cause.

Abhishek Srivastav, a member of MoDUS who is a software engineer by profession, said, “This is the second time in 2016 that MoDUS collected old clothes from residents. They gave old woollen clothes, bags, shoes and even toys for teenage construction workers. They had a huge collection as more than 500 families extended full support for the cause.”

The collection was spread across multiple tables near an under-construction multi-storey building in the society. Volunteers and members of the group were busy preparing packets for construction labourers. There were two queues of labourers and their spouses at the venue to accept the donations.

Namita Bhatia, another member of MoDUS who works in Delhi Transco Ltd. (a public sector power transmission company), said, “The children in the society were also roped in to distribute old coats, shawls and jackets. Children were involved to instil in them the habit of giving back to the society.”

The members of MoDUS consists of lawyers, software engineers, government employees and homemakers. Some of the members of the group are Santosh Mathur, Rachika Agarwal, Bhupindar Saini, Rahul Sahay, Inderpreet Singh, Anil Agrawal, Ravindra Singh Dhnakad, Anup Mehrotra, Aniruddha Dandekar, Vineet Agrawal, Ashish Gupta, Pankaj Kumar Chaudhary and Rahul Sahay.

“Residents enjoy contributing to social causes. A similar donation collection drive was conducted three months ago and the collected material was given to Goonj, an NGO. We like doing social work. All members are well-settled and God has given them enough,” said Sahay, who is a lawyer by profession.
