As authorities fail to curb car thefts, residents of Vasundhara and Indirapuram pool in resources for barriers and guards.

Residents act to save their cars

Fed up of inaction by the police and local authorities in vehicle-theft cases, the residents of Vasundhara and Indirapuram have decided to deal with the issue on their own. They have installed barriers and deployed guards at the sector gates.

Vasundhara Sector 1 witnessed several cases of vehicle theft in the recent past. But the police have failed to step up patrolling to keep a check on the movement of anti-social elements in the area.

Speaking to City Spidey, Aman Singh, a resident, said, “With no help forthcoming from any quarter, we have pooled in funds to instal a barrier and deploy guards at the entrance to check vehicles exiting from the sector.”

Shakti Khand in Indirapuram is facing a similar problem.

“When several reports of vehicle theft failed to stir the police into action, we approached the Ghaziabad Development Authority [GDA]. But the GDA, too, failed to come up with a solution," lamented Sudhir Mishra, a resident.

Here too, the residents have installed a barrier and roped in a guard at the entry point. They have so far collected Rs 18,000 for the purpose.

The residents are happy that these measures have helped curb vehicle thefts to a great extent.
