Speedier health trade licences for East Delhi residents

To improve transparency and make starting a business easier, EDMC has shifted the entire process online.

Speedier health trade licences for East Delhi residents

Residents of East Delhi will no longer need to wait for almost two months to procure health trade licences, thanks to East Delhi Municipal Corporation, which has taken the process online.

The licence is a prerequisite for, say, opening a chemist shop, dealing in surgical instruments or starting a hospital or a nursing home. The corporation issues nearly 100 types of health trade licences every year.

The portal was launched a couple of days back. Jitender Chaudhari, chairman of the EDMC standing committee, told City Spidey that the proposal was tabled in November 2016 and was cleared by both the standing committee and the house recently.

“To ensure transparency, online services have become necessary. Nobody wants repeat rounds of various offices. We have begun providing birth and death certificates online as well. The online process requires fewer documents and the licence is issued as soon as document verification is done. The entire thing is wrapped up in two days, at the most,” Chaudhari explained.

Until now, obtaining a health trade licence had been a tedious process. The entire process, from applying and submitting the documents to verification, took nearly two months.

Mohanjeet Singh, EDMC commissioner, said, “The step will not only help applicants but also ease the department’s burden.”

He added, “One can now upload documents on the EDMC website, and pay the application fee online. Besides, the number of required documents has been reduced from eight to five.”
