East End Apts: Which block will get a new lift first?

Agreeing to replace all 58 outdated lifts in East End Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension might have been a huge step for the society's managing committee but greater challenges lie ahead.

The five-member panel — comprised of K Pasupathy, Mayank Agrawal, Parash Sharma, PK Agrawal and S Shankar — in charge of carrying out the work, seems to have quite an uphill task, owing to the sheer magnitude of the project.

After the decision was taken at the January 15 open-house meeting, all residents now want work to start from their own block. In a vast society such as East End, which has 29 multistorey blocks, starting work from any one block could mean months before lift installation can be done in the last block in line.

The panel headed by K Pasupathy will have a tough time getting the residents to arrive at a consensus.

The panel also needs to collect Rs 20,000 — the tentative amount for this development work — from each household. "We are yet to decide whether the amount is to be collected in three or four instalments," said K Pashupathy.
