On the morning of January 22, Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA), conducted a bike and car rally in protest against Noida builders' failure to hand over flats.
Homebuyers drove their vehicles from Gate No 4 of Noida Stadium, Sector 21, to Gol Chakkar, Noida Extension, as part of the rally.
About 100 cars and bikes participated in the rally. Homebuyers’ slogan on the occasion was “No house no vote”, in keeping with the campaign started on Twitter by about 10,000 Noida Extension homebuyers who were yet to receive possession of their flats.
Members of NEFOWA said the rally should serve as a wake-up call to builders.
Dinesh Singh, one of the homebuyers, said, “We have been waiting for our house for the past 10 years! All the buyers have paid about 80 per cent to 90 per cent of the total cost to builders. We have also met Noida Authority officials and the police over the issue, but are forced to live in rented flats.”
“About 90 per cent of the builders have not given possession of the flats and the government has done nothing for flat buyers of Noida Extension. In this election, all buyers of Noida Extension will opt for the ‘None of the above’ [NOTA] button on the EVM machine,” said Abhishek Kumar, president of NEFOWA.
