With the new bridge on Shahdara drain near the Hindustan Times and Sahyog Apartments ready, residents will now be able to avoid the traffic-riddled road adjacent to Mayur Vihar Phase I Metro station to reach the main road. A Public Works Department (PWD) official told City Spidey that Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will inaugurate the bridge on Tuesday (January 24).

The 50-m-long and 15-m-wide bridge was constructed by the private construction firm Harbel Singh and Sons, at a budget of Rs 9.85 crore.

SK Gupta, junior engineer (PWD), said, “The bridge will help Mayur Vihar Phase I, Trilokpuri and Vasundhara Enclave residents the most.”

“This bridge will provide some much-needed relief from traffic congestion at the Metro station," said Vishnu Sharma, managing committee member of Sahyog Apartments.

"The bridge required a part of the Shiv temple near Hindustan Times Apartments to be demolished," said Gupta. "We managed to convince the temple management, as it was only the boundary wall that was obstructing the construction work. There were three trees that we had to uproot, which we have re-planted at a distance from the original spots."
