Grand Omaxe, Noida: AOA begins its maiden journey

On January 22, after a delay of more than two years, residents of Grand Omaxe, a residential society in Sector 93 B, Noida, managed to form their own AOA.

This is the first AOA election for the society, and the residents are overjoyed.

Though elections had been scheduled several times in the past, they had to be postponed owing to infighting among the residents and the apathy of the returning officer.

In fact, Allahabad High Court had ordered Noida Authority in August 2015 to ensure that the AOA elections were conducted in peace.

This time, the returning officer, Saumya Srivastava, deputy CEO of Noida Authority, ensured that the residents were unable to make any trouble. He deployed a dozen police officers at the polling station to avoid the ruckus that had stalled the election process in the past. Video cameras were also installed at the venue.

Srivastava confirmed that the election was conducted peacefully and in a democratic manner. He expressed happiness at the fact that there was 50 per cent voter turnout. He said, “It’s enough if 40 to 50 per cent of eligible residents vote.”

The counting began late in the evening and continued for hours.

PVS Prakash, one of the winners, said, “We have finally formed the AOA despite all obstacles. We will do all we can to improve life in the society.”

The elected executive members lost no time in nominating the office bearers. Prakash added, “We didn’t want any more delays, and that’s why we convened a meeting of all the 10 elected members to select the management board.”

Umong Sethi was declared the president; Shilpa Panpalia the vice-president; PVS Prakash the general secretary; Manish Gupta the treasurer; Meenakshi Pai the joint treasurer; and Sanjay Rajdev the joint secretary.

Prakash said the elected body would begin its maiden journey by starting the process of registering the AOA with the Deputy Registrar, Meerut.
