Dwarka: Newly planted saplings die of negligence

Residents of Sectors 22 and 23 have been demanding regular watering arrangements for the newly planted saplings along Road Number 226, but the DDA refuses to pay any heed.

SS Mann, vice-president of Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi (SDKS), and a member of the managing committee of Sadbhavna Apartments, Sector 22, says, “We have been keeping in touch with the officers of the horticulture department from the last two months for the watering of the newly planted neem and benzima saplings twice a month. But our pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The plants are dying from lack of water. The DDA needs to look into this.”

Same is the fate of the saplings planted in front of Government Co-ed Senior Secondary School, and those planted on the road divider in front of Bank Vihar Apartment in Sector 22.

DC Mathur, a resident of New Kanchanjunga Apartments, Sector 23, and secretary of SDKS, laments, "We planted about 160 saplings along Road Number 226 — but 25 per cent of the plants are already dead due to unavailability of water. Initially, we did try to make some arrangement for watering from the society, but that can’t be a permanent solution. After calling up repeatedly, the DDA sent a tanker on January 26 — but that again can’t be a permanent solution.”
