Various Dwarka-based groups discuss ideas on how to celebrate February 12
Various Dwarka-based groups met at Food Plaza, near Sector 6 Park, on January 28 to discuss how to celebrate One Billion Rising (OBR), a global campaign meant to end sexual violence against women, on February 12.
The participants included Dwarka Collective, Dwarka Forum, Sahas, Choti Si Khushi, Mission Safe and Clean Dwarka, Rise Foundation and representatives of Maxfort School and Mount Carmel School.
A resident of Sri Agrasen Apartments, Sector 7, and founder of Mission Clean and Safe Dwarka, AK Parashar, said, "OBR is an international campaign to stop violence against women, and we have decided to celebrate the movement in the sub-city. We have been discussing ideas on how to observe the day. Maybe, we will host the event at one of the government schools — if we get the permission.”
Several interesting ideas were presented during the meeting.
Dwarka Forum president Madhuri Varshney shared, "People suggested a sensitisation programme on violence against women. Residents — women and otherwise — must also know whom to contact in case of an emergency. We decided to have several stalls at the venue to distribute pamphlets.” She also offered to get in touch with Justice Sunanda Bhandare Foundation.
From Sahas, Mona Yadav said that they would organise a stall on child sexual abuse, while Dikshant, a theater artiste, offered to get in touch with Gender Champions Club at IP University. Seema Joshi of Choti Si Khushi suggested a spot painting competition for the children.
Mount Carmel decided to put up a mime show, while Maxfort School settled on a dance; Dwarka Women zeroed in on a skit; Dwarka Collective agreed on two group songs and more.
Parashar said, “Manju Dubey, a poet from Dwarka, will recite poetry, while Leena Dabiru and Shabnam from Dwarka Collective will read out stories about victims of rape in a conversation format. The programme will start from 10 am and will continue till 1.30 pm on February 12.”
All members agreed to have well-known feminist Kamla Bhasin as the guest of honour.
