In Dwarka, Sambhav Puja Samiti concluded Saraswati puja in an eco-friendly way, by immersing the idol of the goddess in an artificial water tank dug out in a park behind Radhika Apartments, Sector 14.

Mukesh Singh, chief patron of the puja committee and a resident of Highland Apartments in Sector 12, said, “We have tried to spread awareness about the need to save the Yamuna river. In any celebration, the protection of the environment should be the prime focus. We celebrated the puja with this as our priority.”

Sushil Kumar, chairman of the committee and a resident of Radhika Apartments, Sector 14, said, “It is the responsibility of the community to save the environment. This is as important as the sentiments related to any festival. We discussed this at a meeting and, on the suggestion of some members, decided to perform the immersion in an eco-friendly way. We’ve been doing this for the past two years. The idols are made of clay and after immersion in the water tank, we cover up the tank entirely with soil, so the enire process is eco-friendly.”

“This is a small initiative. We want to spread awareness about the need to save the environment by embracing innovative ideas. The tank was a symbolic river to us. We have to respect religious sentiments and protect the environment at the same time,” said Nand Kishore Jha, president of the committee and a resident of Om Apartments, Sector 14.

Sambhav Puja Samiti's is one of the biggest Sarswati puja celebrations in Dwarka.
