Dwarka, Sector 10: Why these plants are not looking forward to summer

Why would they, when they don't even know if they will be watered?

Dwarka, Sector 10: Why these plants are not looking forward to summer

Residents of various societies of Sector 10 have been demanding a pipeline of treated sewage water for the two neighbourhood parks of the locality as a permanent watering solution.

One park lies between Bandhu Vihar Apartments and Shiv Shakti Apartments, and the other behind IIT Engineers Apartments near Saraswati Model Public School.

A group of morning walkers and nature lovers have been repeatedly writing to the authorities for the past one year about this.

SS Goel, a resident of IIT Engineers Apartments and one of the campaigners, said, “We have been raising the issue before DDA for the past one year through letters; we have also held several meetings. Now they say the parks have been transferred to SDMC and they can’t do much."

According to Goel, DDA has already laid the pipeline, but with the transfer of jurisdiction, things have come to a standstill. He added, “Pipelines have been laid till Golak Dham Temple, which is close to the park. But the authorities are not willing to lay the pipes inside the parks, owing to the transfer of jurisdiction. And that’s really unfortunate!"

So dire is the situation that people who use the parks often carry bottles of water with them to water the plants.

A resident of Chandanwari Apartments, Mithilesh Kumar, said that the residents have had meetings with both DDA and SDMC — but the authorities don’t seem to care much. He added, "We will continue to pursue the matter. Summers are approaching and the plants will die without adequate water.”
