Gurgaon: Citizens, get ready to report traffic violations

Besides scrapping manual challans, the city police has introduced a WhatsApp no (9999981800) and an email id (pcbranchggm@gmail.com) where citizens can report traffic violations.

Gurgaon: Citizens, get ready to report traffic violations

Gurgaon police is slowly, but steadily, working towards curbing traffic violations. The first step has been digitisation and the introduction of e-challans in the city.

Manual payment of challans has stopped. More than 15 computers have been installed for e-challan payment. The staff, too, has been trained, and two new branches have been opened to ensure smooth operations.

On other fronts, to ensure adherence to traffic rules in the absence of police presence, the city police has introduced a WhatsApp no (9999981800) and an e-mail id (pcbranchggm@gmail.com), where citizens can report traffic violations.

One needs to click the photo of the offending vehicle along with the registration number, and send it to the above-mentioned email id or WhatsApp no. The police will then send a postal challan to the offender after verification.

City Spidey asked Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar on how far he thought the initiative would be successful. In response, he said, “The support of citizens is essential for the success of our drive. From February 6, we will be able to judge whether the drive is a success or a failure. We will know in three or four days.”

Suncity general secretary VM Singh praised the police initiative. He said, “This is a good initiative, but its success depends entirely on implementation. Most of the time, the cops are the offenders — they never follow traffic rules. If the police really wants to check traffic violations, it will have to take strict action against such cops.”

Ajay Kumar, a resident of Sushant Lok, said, “The drive is certainly good, but it should be implemented systematically. Strong action must be taken against those who wrongly park their cars and cause traffic jams. I will definitely use the service whenever I see a traffic violation.”
