Prateek Wisteria protests against builder over water woes Residents during the protest at Quick Pick Prateek Walk on February 5

About two dozen residents of Prateel Wisteria, a residential society in Sector 77, Noida, staged a protest against the builder at Quick Pick Prateek Walk, a shopping complex in the society, on February 5.

Residents were protesting over massive leakages in the society’s water supply pipelines. They said that despite having taken up the issue with the builder recently, the builder has failed to provide a concrete solution. Due to poor maintenance, the problem has persisted.

“This is the fourth time within a month that the potable water supply piplelines’ joints below towers A and J have burst. It disrupted the water supply of several flats, which threw residents’ lives out of gear,” said Jagjeet Singh, president of the Apartment Owners Association of the society.

Residents complain that due to leakages, the water floods the basement while their taps run dry. This also causes inconvenience to residents going to the parking lot in the basement.

Nitesh Ranjan, a resident and member of the society’s resident body, said, “It’s a complete mess, especially when there is no water coming from the taps.  It’s difficult to manage when one is in a hurry to leave for work.”

Arvind Singh, joint secretary of the society, said that the pipelines’ joints were getting damaged in a week or ten days time. “As the problem escalated, residents finally came out in protest. During the protest, residents shut down shutters of the builder’s shops too. The builder has reduced the number of support staff and there is only one plumber for the entire society, which houses around 1800 flats,” Singh said.

He alleged that the water treatment plant of the society is defunct but the builder claims that it is operational. This has resulted in the residents getting dirty water supply.

Neeraj Virmani, treasurer of the residents’ body, said that as the builder has not cleaned the overhead tanks for a long time, residents are forced to make do with the contaminated water.  “Residents are being supplied black-coloured water, which stinks,” he added.

City Spidey learned that the joints in the pipelines were getting damaged due to high pressure of water supply. The on-duty plumber responded to the water leakage on the morning of February 5 immediately.

SK Mittal, president of Prateek Group, the real estate developer, was not available for comment. However, residents said that the builder has assured them of an immediate solution to the issue.
