Noida, Eldeco Utopia: Damaged footpath awaits repairs

A 4-ft-wide and 600-m-long footpath beside an upscale residential society in Sector 93A, Noida, has been crying for official attention for a long time. Its abysmal condition has been forcing pedestrians to take the road, causing immense inconvenience.

The footpath along the boundary wall of Eldeco Utopia was dug up by private plumbers hired by the society to fix the leaking water pipelines two months ago. The spot was cordoned off to carry out the work. But the remaining debris was never cleared out and was left at the site as it is.

The leakage was repaired but the footpath was never levelled off.

According to Sunil Oberoi, the person responsible for maintenance at Eldeco Utopia, the footpath was not levelled off because they wanted to observe whether or not the leaks start again. He, however, assured that the footpath would be straightened out soon.

Rahul Singh, a resident, said, “It is dangerous to take the road, as vehicles are often speeding by. The area has become extremely accident-prone!”

Ex-army officer Captain Vikas Gupta said that he had taken up the issue with the Noida Authority, but there was no response from them.

Suresh Chauhan, a supervisor with Noida Authority, blamed the residents for the situation, since they had the road dug up.

There is another leaking water pipeline nearby. Chauhan explained, “The air valve of the pipeline has been left a little loose for passage of air. Tightening of the valve could result in the pipeline bursting.”

However, the leakage is leading to a lot of muck on the footpath. Auto drivers are also seen taking advantage of the leakage — they frequently wash their autos in the water.

When City Spidey contacted MD Pandey, project engineer with Noida Authority, he said he would ask the concerned officers to get in touch with the residents of the society as soon as possible.
