As a water crisis looms over Indirapuram, residents are apprehensive about a dry summer.

Residents of Indirapuram are anxious about the fast-approaching summers. They are worried the water crisis in the neighbourhood will get worse. Residents claim that poor Jal Board infrastructure, in addition to the GDA's indifferent attitude, is the reason behind the problem. Nyay Khand, Shakti Khand, Abhay Khand and Ahinsa Khand are the worst affected.

Maheswaran Nair, general secretary of Amrapali Village in Abhay Khand, said the water received from the Gangajal supply is not sufficient. "The society still resorts to deep bore wells to meet the daily requirement," he added.

RK Agarwal, Project Manager, Gangajal Water Treatment Plant, Pratap Vihar, said, "Despite the 22 cusecs of water allotted to the GDA, it has procured only 12-13 cusecs per day over the past few months. The current requirement may be less because it's winter. A second plant that was set up in August last year is yet to see its first summer. It should solve the problem. Maybe the GDA will procure more water in the coming months."

When City Spidey contacted Kaptan Singh, Executive Engineer, in charge of Indirapuram, GDA, he said that water supplied from four underground reservoirs is sufficient to fulfil the area's daily requirement. "The booster pumps and eight overhead tanks provide sufficient supply of water. Apartments that do not receive water are the ones that are yet to clear their dues," Singh said.

However, Federation of Apartment Owner's Association (FedAOA) rejected the reason. Alok Kumar, President of FedAOA, said that the problem of Indirapuram's water shortage in summer is due to insufficient booster pumps. Citing a few apartments such as Ashiana Upvan and Niho Scottish Gardens, he said that despite owners clearing their dues, the apartments do not receive sufficient Gangajal supply.

"How can the GDA keep track of each society's water consumption in the absence of water meters? On what basis will they decide who receives what amount?" said Kumar.
