Noida, Sector 77: Rampant traffic violations spur action

Incidents of collision go unreported on a stretch between Prateek Wisteria in Sector 77 and Supertech North Eye in Sector 74. The reason: Violators take a cut from Skytech Matrott Apartments, and end up driving on the wrong side of the lane.

Rampant traffic violations on a stretch between two residential societies in Noida — Prateek Wisteria in Sector 77 and Supertech North Eye in Sector 74 — has prompted residents to protest strongly.

The residents complained that driving in the opposite direction, and recklessly — especially from a cut next to Skytech Matrott Apartments, in Sector 76 — has become the norm. But the traffic cops decide to look the other way.

Incidents of collision are quite frequent on this lane. There’s a U-turn just next to Supertech Capetown in Sector 74, even less than a kilometre from the cut. And yet, auto rickshaws, cars and bikes prefer to take the cut, endangering the lives of commuters and pedestrians.

Yudhvir Singh, a resident of Prateek Wisteria, said, "The road in front of my society has been illegally converted into a parking lot, with sometimes two to three lanes! And there’s hardly any space left for commuters to move — and cars in the wrong lane just add to the chaos."

Singh pointed out that bikers frequently collide with cars exiting from his society, but these incidents go unreported, as no one wants to register a complaint with the police. He said, “There’s often a heated exchange of words, but no one wants to get into the hassle of reporting to the police.”

A group of residents from the society periodically conducted awareness drives to sensitise violators, but things went back to square one in no time. The only way out, according to Singh, was to deploy traffic cops on the stretch.

When City Spidey took up the issue with Prabal Pratap Singh, SP (traffic), he said prompt action would be taken. He said, “The traffic inspector has been told to initiate action against those who are flouting the norms. A team of traffic police will visit the sector, and the defaulters will be challaned.”
