Nirman Apts, MV I Ext: Residents claim parking charges hiked without consent

Residents of Nirman Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension are irked with the managing committee for hiking parking charges without their consent. At a recent meeting, the parking charges for every additional car owned by a household was increased by Rs 200.

The hike for second cars from Rs 600 to Rs 800 was announced at the managing committee meeting held on February 19.

"I came to know about the hike in parking charges after the meeting was over," said RP Kaushik, a resident. "I am fine with the hike in charges but there is a process they need to follow, which they did not. I have been living here for the past 20 years and have been the president of the committee twice. And yet, neither me, nor other residents were involved in the decision-making process."

DK Chhatwal, the general secretary of the managing committee, said the decision had been taken with the consent of residents and all the 11 committee members. "The issue has been discussed in several meetings," said Chhatwal. "Residents are aware of it. There were more than 200 residents present on January 1, when the committee had put forth the matter for discussion. Most of them had agreed with us.”

Meanwhile, the cooperative group housing society has issued notices to residents, asking them to deposit quarterly (January to March) maintenance charges by March 31.

The committee charges Rs 3,000 per flat owner as quarterly maintenance. Quarterly maintenance charges for residents living on rent in the Higher Income Group (HIG) flats are Rs 3,900, while those for the Minimum Income Group (MIG) and the Lower Income Group (LIG) are Rs 3,600 and Rs 3,300 respectively.

TC Batra, another resident who lives in Block C of the society, said the price hike was too soon. "Parking charges have been increased thrice in the past three years," he said.
