Parents protest against fee hike by Salwan Public School

Hapless parents protested against Gurgaon's Salwan Public School outside the office of the District Education Officer (DEO) recently after the school decided to raise the fees for January in the name of arrears. The parents also met with the DEO, Neelam Bhandari.

The hike flies in the face of the divisional commissioner’s (DC) directive, which asked the school to consult with parents and solve the matter internally. The parents had earlier protested against the school on January 21, and met with the DC on January 31.

Sonia Vashisht, a parent, said, “The school authorities are not listening to us. They demanded a one-time fund of Rs 6,700. The DEO assured us of prompt action. Such arbitrary steps by the school must be stopped.”

Bhandari said, “I have heard the parents out. We will talk to school authorities about it. They should be able to solve the problem on their own — and they should certainly take a middle path.”

The school authorities said they would talk to parents and come to a workable solution.
