Did 100 just become a reliable number?

Police control room officials in GreNo and Noida are now answerable for every call they receive on the emergency number.

Did 100 just become a reliable number?

If you are ever in the middle of an emergency in Noida or Greater Noida, you are likely to be let down by the police emergency number.

Dialling 100 results in either of these things: The number is unreachable or the call goes unanswered. If someone does receive your call, the leap of joy your heart does soon dies down because of the painfully slow response time.

However, DGP Javed Ahmed has now instructed the SSP to ensure that people in distress can rely on the emergency number.

From now on, all calls to the police control room (PCR) will be recorded in a register and monitored by an official. He or she will be responsible for addressing the caller's concern and is liable for questioning if the caller is dissatisfied with the response.

However, despite the change, things are not going too smoothly.

"On my way back home from office, I noticed a suspicious vehicle following me. I dialed 100, but I didn't get any response while I was on the road. By the time they took my call, I had already reached home," says Rakesh Sharma, a resident of Sector Beta 2.

Hopefully now, the person who missed Sharma's call will have to answer some questions.
