After the cleaning and painting of flyover pillars in the city, Youth Network Ghaziabad, a city-based youth group, has taken the onus of changing the face of parks across the city.

The activities will include cleaning, painting and planting of new saplings in the parks.

Under the initiative — dubbed Mission 50,000 — 50,000 saplings will be planted across the city.

CREDAI, an apex body of private real estate developers, will collaborate with YNG. Manu Garg, VP of CREDAI, told City Spidey, “We will provide financial and managerial support to the programme.”

As a first step, 250 saplings were planted in Model Town West with help from local residents.

Various saplings, such as bougainvillea, kachnar, maulsari, ficus panda, kaner, chandini and gulmohar, were planted according to resident preference.

A similar drive was organised in a park in B Block, Sector 23, Rajnagar. The teams, comprising YNG members and residents, cleaned the park, planted new saplings and painted the swings too.

Speaking to City Spidey, Mayank Chaudhry, a member of YNG, said that the best thing about the drive was the participation of residents. He added, “The next target is Pratap Vihar. We have been conducting meetings and selecting parks for makeovers. We are also building our connections for carrying out drives in Indirapuram.”
